Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge

Overview

A regenerative rural retreat

Perched above the famous Pokhara Valley with a spectacular Himalayan backdrop, Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge is a tranquil rural haven ideal for kicking back between treks or safaris while getting a real immersion into local life.

The lodge has 16 rooms in hand-cut stone cottages resembling a village, with local carpentry, cool slate and parquet floors, rich Tibetan rugs, handmade wood furniture and original artwork. Large windows and glass doors maximise the glorious views. There’s also a central lodge, bar and dining room where you can enjoy homegrown and local farm-to-table produce.

Activities here range from challenging full day hikes to culture-focused walks and a chance to learn all about the lodge’s deep-rooted ethos of regenerative tourism. Tours of Pokhara itself and adventurous excursions like paragliding can also be arranged.

Community & Culture

Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge has evolved through the thought processes of eco-tourism and wider sustainable tourism, and now seeks to develop concepts appropriate to the middle hills of Nepal for truly ‘regenerative tourism’ as a leap beyond somewhat passive sustainability to reverse damaging trends to regenerate the environment and communities so that all can thrive.

To validate their claims, they are independently verified by Yardstick UK. We are certified by GSTC affiliate Travellife with Gold Standard Audits in 2017 and 2019. The lodge is also an Aspiring Fellow Member of The Long Run. From the start, Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge has enshrined the 4Cs of Culture, Community, Conservation and Commerce as part of its sustainability journey.

They are an active member of the local community working with local schools with an education outreach project providing the equivalent of four fulltime teachers, and a Community Forest Committee to support community-based and led initiatives through our Community Support Partnership Programme. Over 80% of the staff from the lodge’s 1998 opening still work here.

Tiger Mountain is a member of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travellers to make a lasting impact in the destination community. Please click here to see what supplies are needed local schools in our community.

Conservation

While the owned land area of the lodge is only about 3 hectares, the lodge works with the surrounding community forest to encourage sustainable management for community benefit. Within the lodge grounds, the land is in its natural state allowing a range of native trees, shrubs, and other flora to establish themselves in short grass and longer grass terraces surrounded by native forest. This has provided a haven for many birds and over 280 species of butterflies on the grounds alone.
