Community & Culture

Right from the start, Delfin Amazon Cruises has had a continuous commitment to practicing and promoting responsible tourism, aiming to share the benefits with the riverine communities.

One project works with local women to produce handicrafts, which has since grown to employ around 50 people whose artworks decorate the boats and can be purchased by guests. The proceeds of handicrafts sold onboard help also help fund an annual program that provides school supplies for children and first aid kits to all the communities along the cruise routes.

Delfin also works with local guides, who are in charge of cleaning the hiking paths we use and give support to our onboard guides, helping them to identify and find plants, insects and other fauna during excursions in the rainforest. Guides are hired on a rotating basis, so every man in the community has the opportunity to be part of this effort.

Last but not least, the Amazonian fruits and fish served on board are often purchased from riverine communities as well.
