10-day trip

Walking with the Serengeti Migration

From 12705 PP

Overview

A Walk on the Wild Side

A real East African adventure for the intrepid seeking a unique walking safari expedition in complete wilderness.

After a couple of days of unwinding, begin your privately guided weeklong walk from the rim of the astounding Ngorongoro Crater to the Serengeti. Leaving behind the vehicles on the crater floor, trek through Maasai villages into a protected area of savannah, rocky koppies and streams only accessible to a lucky few on foot, arriving at a fly camp and fire set up for you each night.

You’ll be accompanied by specially trained guides and national park rangers, safely encountering the Serengeti’s incredible wildlife on foot as you walk amid the countless wildebeests and zebras as they migrate across the area, ending with a final night at the fabulous Namiri Plains in the heart of big cat territory. A completely matchless experience.

Start exploring

Days 1 — 2

Overnight in Arusha

Start your trip with a night in the green outskirts of Arusha staying at a welcoming lodge surrounded by coffee plantations in the shadow of Kilimanjaro. Relax after your flight or try your hand at harvesting and roasting fresh beans.

Days 2 — 3

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The safari begins in the Ngorongoro Crater, the 610m deep, 19km wide remains of an ancient volcano. The caldera’s walls encircle lush grasses, forests, lakes and a great density of wildlife and a game drive here is a great (if a little crowded) way to see East Africa’s iconic species.

Days 3 — 9

Trekking to the Serengeti

Accompanied by your very own expert guide and armed rangers, start your 20km trek to the Serengeti. Over the next six days, walk from the wider Ngorongoro Conservation Area through Maasai villages into a designated ‘Wilderness Zone’ accessible only on foot that virtually no tourists get to see. Timed to coincide with the migration’s arrival in this corner of the Serengeti, walk amid the seemingly endless herds of wildebeests and zebras without a vehicle or other soul in sight – an incredibly privileged experience. Encountering a pride of lions on foot is unforgettable.
