Scotland

Rich history and a wild future

Scotland is a country close to our hearts at Niarra. Sitting atop the United Kingdom, it is a fairytale land of heather-clad hills, imposing Highland mountains and mirror-surfaced lochs, sprinkled with castles and stone cottages. At almost every turn, you’ll be met by history and a proud heritage.

While it may appear timeless, wind turbines turning in the distance and glens scattered with saplings hint at Scotland’s sustainable future. After centuries of strict management, nature is being encouraged to take control again with once extirpated species such as beavers and white-tailed eagles being reintroduced, and native forests restored for a richer, more resilient future. The estates and lodges we work with are enacting this bold vision, letting you experience Scotland’s most beautiful places and play a role in their rewilding.

And the experiences here match the epic vistas. Hike gnarly mounted ridges, kayak between islets and curious seals, then wander sandy beaches that stretch for miles. Or mountain bike trails between towering pines, take a steam train through a great glen and swim with enormous basking sharks, perhaps ending the day at an old crofter’s cottage with a feast of venison, just-caught seafood and local whisky.

What's the weather like?

When to visit Scotland

The summer months of June, July and August are the most popular time to visit Scotland with long days and the warmest weather. Spring and autumn are cooler but quieter and our favourite time to explore.
