Community & Culture

All the meals served use raw ingredients are purchased from local markets, local shops and farms putting money back into local communities.

Wayo Africa strongly believes in training and employing Tanzanian people in key positions and almost all personnel at Wayo are Tanzanian. One of the ways they support this is with their well-regarded guide training facilities.

Conservation

The walking safaris operate in areas far away from other camps and vehicles in the Serengeti. It is in these areas that an often overstretched national park service do not have the resources to patrol, making the walks an effective anti-poaching service while also removing any snares found. Over the years, the walks have helped restore wildlife to areas, which is why they have now been given special access to rhino protection zones,

Footprint

"Wayo" means footprint in Swahili, embodying an ethos of treading lightly as well as being out discovering Africa and meeting its people on foot.

Being completely mobile, the camp has a light footprint operating in the most environmentally sustainable manner possible. Low impact energy creation is used as much as possible, waste in the camp is minimised by preparing part of the meals in Arusha. Wayo are plastic free as much as possible, using solar-powered lights and recycling waste. They are constantly aiming to improve operations and influence and educate others around us to do the same.
