Timbavati Nature Reserve

Simbavati Trails Camp

Overview

Luxury back-to-basic walking safari

Unfenced, and set in 11,000 hectares of unspoilt wilderness within the Kruger National Park, Simbavati Trails Camp is stripped back luxury at its finest.

Experience a true disconnect from the world around you with no electricity, WiFi or phone reception and relish in the untamed African wildlife surrounding you. Simbavati Trails Camp offers an intimate adventure with four spacious en-suite Meru-style tents, perfect for families or groups to book in its entirety. The back of the tent opens out to a private al fresco en-suite ‘bathroom to the stars’, with a gloriously simple bucket shower.

This camp is all about reconnecting with back-to-basics nature through expertly guided walks, one of the most stimulating and enthralling forms of safari. Days will pass blissfully as you set out in the coolness of the morning, nocturnal animals backing away into their burrows and dens, and diurnal ones sauntering to waterholes. Take the time to rest at camp and marvel at spectacular sunsets. Indulge in dinner under the stars, where a hearty and delicious meal will be prepared over an open fire by an expert cook.

Please note that the camp is only operational from March to November.

Community & Culture

Simbavati is passionate about their local community with a long-term goal to see the community around us thrive both economically and socially. For this reason, they have partnered with Eco Children, a local non-profit organisation focusing on improving education in the area.

Eco Children focuses on hands-on environmental education and whole school development and work with primary schools in the area. They help schools better their infrastructure and the overall teaching conditions, in order to improve education and empower learners to break the cycle of poverty they have been born into.

Conservation

The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve was initiated in 1956 by a group of landowners who were concerned about the degradation of this once pristine wilderness area. Timbavati is dedicated to conservation by maintaining the biodiversity of species and is also involved in different research projects.
