Serian's Serengeti North

Overview

Private game drives by the Mara River

In the far north of the Serengeti, moments from the Mara River, Alex Walker’s Serian's Serengeti North is a classic safari set up in the shade of warburgia trees.

It has eight marquee tents, including a two-bed family marquee, each decked out with campaign-style furniture and adjoining ‘bath bathrooms’ with bucket showers. A candlelit dining mess sits at the heart of the camp, with expansive views across the plains and convivial meal times.

Set up here between mid-June and mid-November to coincide with the arrival of millions of wildebeest and zebra on their annual migration – along with the Serengeti’s other iconic residents – you're in the heart of the action. With each group assigned their own vehicle, guide and tracker, game drives are spent how you want, whether it’s a full day watching animals brave the currents and crocodiles on the Mara River, or cat spotting on Wogakuria Kopje at dawn.

Walking safaris epitomise the golden chance to get away from the trails and beaten tracks, and immerse in the environment in a way that the noise and speed of vehicles don’t permit. In Serian’s Serengeti North, the focus is on the Mara River – which offers a combination of big game encounters and and beautiful countryside.

Footprint

The very foundation of Alex Walker’s Serian is constituted by a deep respect for the beautiful wilds of Kenya and Tanzania, as well as its people and cultures. The preservation of these precious spaces lies at the heart of Serian's ethos and practice, and this manifests itself in a number of ways, from permanent camps relying on solar power for electricity to empowering female guides and supporting de-snaring projects.
