Cloud Forest retreat
Poas Volcano Lodge is a peaceful, contemporary stay found high up in the cloud forest between the active stratovolcano and Braulio Carrillo National Park, immersed in four hectares of gardens and a working dairy farm.
There are 12 individual rooms, some with balconies enjoying sweeping views while others look into the gardens just steps away from the forest. The Field House is an open-plan villa ideal for families.
The main lodge has a well-regarded restaurant serving a selection of European and traditional Costa Rican dishes with locally sourced produce wherever possible, as well as a sitting room, library and a living wall covered in a variety of highland orchids and bromeliads.
Activities in the area include hiking up Poas volcano or to hidden waterfalls, white water rafting, excellent birdwatching and horse riding.

Community & Culture
Poas Volcano Lodge initiated the process for the ‘Programa Bandera Azul Ecologica’ in the local area. As a result, and with the support of the Lodge, Varablanca has been awarded the ‘Blue Flag’ Certificate for sustainability for the last 13 years by the Costa Rican Tourism Board. As a business, the lodge has run a community-based reforestation programme with the local school and college since 1998, planting over 200 trees per year. Most recently they have supported and spearheaded a new rural cooperative, Cooperativa de Turismo Rural Varablanca, with the aim to develop local and rural tourism activities at a grassroots level.
