Overview

Rustic comfort in the Bhutanese Jungle

Established in 2015, Panbang Eco Camp is a community-based sustainable venture initially funded by Bhutan Foundation, located near the sub-tropical forests of Royal Manas National Park.

Situated next to the Marangdut tributary of the Drangme river, it comprises of eight comfortable and spacious individual tents for sleeping, modern bathroom and shower facilities, and a common dining area. All the structures are covered with thatched roof made in the traditional Khengpa style. When in season, the camp’s kitchen staff will be most happy to make traditional delicacies out of local resources such as wild banana flowers, bamboo shoots, edible orchids and ferns. Panbang Eco Camp source their vegetables and food items locally where possible.

The rich wildlife viewing opportunities here more than compensates for the simple creature comforts this facility has to offer. View wild elephants, rhino, deer, riverine aquatic species and many colourful birds in this easily accessible Park. The nearby forests and stream provide ample opportunities for a pleasant hike or a cool dip in the water.

    Raft the Dangme Chhu to Panbang

    Rafting the remote Dangme Chhu offers the intrepid adventurer an experience they will never forget. You can expect drop-pool systems with mostly regular Class III/III+ rapids (with occasional Class IV/IV+ rapids), most of them gradient caused and many with rocks and ledges creating complex rapids.

Community & Culture

Panbang Eco Camp have supported the local community in assisting to provide a proper water supply to the village for improved drinking water and field irrigation. Given the camp’s skills and equipment, they also volunteer for any river-related search and rescue, or recovery efforts in the area in times of need.

Conservation

Pangbang Eco Camp cares for their community and their environment. They want to keep their community clean and green, for you and for themselves. The camp partners with Clean Bhutan and local authorities to coordinate clean-up campaigns and increase awareness on proper waste management in their area.
