Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Ol Pejeta Safari Cottages

Overview

Home-away-from-home bush luxury

The Safari Cottage can be found tucked away along a beautiful acacia studded river line in the heart of Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s exclusive wilderness area.

Choose from a choice of four cottages: Moja Juu and Moja Chini are the two single bedroom cottages featuring an ensuite bathroom with a private/lounge dining room and an extensive veranda with views to the river and plains beyond. One kitchen serves each unit and so are ideally suited for those staying on an all-inclusive package; however the cottages do come with their own separate private guide and vehicle, dedicated waiter and room attendant.

Mbili is the pioneer cottage built largely of recycled wood from the old ranch house that once stood in the same place. The cottage has two ensuite bedrooms with an open plan living and dining room with a roaring fireplace. Mbili has its own dedicated kitchen and chef, making it ideal for self-catering groups or those who just like that extra touch of privacy. It also comes with a private guide and vehicle and dedicated waiter and room attendant. Tatu is an exact replica of Mbili, and these cottages can be booked together to host large groups or separately.

Community & Culture

Ol Pejeta seeks to support the people living around its borders, to ensure wildlife conservation translates to better education, healthcare and infrastructure for the next generation of wildlife guardians.

Through business enterprises and donors, Ol Pejeta Conservancy works to develop the funding necessary to pay for their wildlife conservation work and to provide financial assistance to projects that assist the people living within the neighbouring communities. Ol Pejeta works with local government and a variety of elected community representatives across the district to identify projects that qualify for assistance from the Conservancy. All projects are assessed on a case-by-case basis and must contain some element of community contribution, concentrating on health, education, water, roads, agriculture, and livestock extension services and the development of community-based conservation tourism ventures.

They collaborate with surrounding communities to mitigate human-wildlife conflict and support economic projects such as introducing more efficient drip irrigation farming and has partnered with the Northern Rangelands Trust on their sustainable cattle ranching project (true to its origins as a working cattle ranch, Ol Pejeta still maintains a herd of 6,000 beef cattle).

Conservation

Conservation is a dynamic and rapidly changing scene. Ol Pejeta partners with international wildlife, security and research specialists to stay at the forefront of conservation innovation. These partnerships have led to unique data findings, methods and cutting-edge technology that have contributed to the protection of Ol Pejeta’s diverse species and beyond.
