Nayara Tented Camp

Overview

Private oasis in the rainforest

Shrouded by thick jungle on the foothills of Arenal Volcano, Nayara Tented Camp is blessed with the best of Costa Rica’s natural beauty.

The 21 tented suites at Nayara Tented Camp offer your own private oasis within the rainforest. Taking a cue from luxury African safaris, every comfort has been considered – from sumptuous rolltop baths to enveloping four-poster beds. Inside, neutral tones are lifted by rainforest prints and brass accents whilst outside, an infinity pool reaches into the canopy and a hammock lures you into a lazy afternoon.

The on-site, gourmet restaurant treats guests to a wide variety of local delicacies for breakfast and dinner. You can admire the breathtaking forest view from the terrace, or seek out the additional plunge pools, which are surrounded by dense forest and fed by the same mineral hot springs.

Community & Culture

Nayara Tented Camp thinks local, they want their local community to thrive. The majority of their staff members come from the neighboring town of La Fortuna de San Carlos. They offer them free transportation, sustainable tourism education, and health services. Some of their additional local initiatives include free early education for their employees’ children, financial support to a local orphanage (Hogarcito de Niños) and support for local artists.

Conservation

Reforestation is the most important action Nayara Tented Camp takes to protect the rainforest and the wildlife that lives near and in the resort. Planting new trees reduces the number of greenhouse gases in the air, benefiting the local climate. As those new trees grow, they help rebuild endangered habitats, the leading threat to the health of all wild animal species. They have slowly and painstakingly replanted native species in the forest and set out a tropical garden throughout the resort which has created a natural refuge for birds, monkeys and sloths. They have an extensive collection of tropical plants including palms, cycads, flowering trees, and vines. Their collection also includes different varieties of ginger, heliconias, and tropical bamboo.

Footprint

Nayara Tented Camp's tents are sustainable and renewable. Land topography allows this resort to orientate their rooms smartly to maximize the effects of sunlight and ventilation, minimizing the need for air conditioning and heating. They use energy-conserving light bulbs and lighting systems. The camp uses water-conserving faucets and are working hard to become a single-use plastic free resort. They have replaced plastic water bottles with reusable glass bottles in the villas, eliminated plastic straws, and continue to recycle plastic and cartons.
