Community & Culture
The Friedkin Conservation Fund's partnership with the local communities helps to improve their livelihoods through conservation, giving them an active role in the process. The fund helps to improve accessibility to education, builds schoolrooms and teacher housing and provides scholarships. Their income generation project focuses on helping small business owners with microfinancing and business consulting. The FCF also addresses the needs of rural medical clinics, providing equipment and medicine as well as educating staff. Mwiba also has a close working relationship with local communities, allowing for unique, genuine and non-exploitative cultural experiences on their own terms.
Conservation
The Friedkin Conservation Fund (FCF) is the not for profit arm of Mwiba Holdings and was established in 1994 to conserve nearly 1.4 million of Tanzania’s protected land. With the area under pressure from illegal harvesting of natural resources, poaching of ivory and extraction of charcoal – black markets were threatening the existence of East Africa’s last untamed wilderness. The FCF has taken on the responsibility of preserving these areas that are so crucial to the survival of the greater Serengeti ecosystem, while protecting the wildlife and ensuring that resident communities benefit from a balanced conservation plan.
