Mt Mulligan Lodge

Overview

Outback chic

Beside a river at the foot of a sacred escarpment, in the middle of a 28,000-hectare ranch, Mt Mulligan Lodge blends adventure and luxury a quintessentially outback chic experience.

Hosting up to 20 guests at any one time, rooms range from sustainably built safari-style tents to timber-framed lodge rooms with balconies making the most of the views. The main pavilion has a laid-back lounge, infinity pool, outdoor deck area and dining room where you can enjoy locally sourced produce.

Each room has an electric buggy for exploring nearby sites, with kayaks, paddleboards and fishing gear on hand for those drawn to the river. The activities here have been designed to make the most of the rugged outback territory's wild spaces and heritage, with experiences ranging from guided tours of historical townships to hikes, ATV adventures and wild swimming.

Community & Culture

The lodge actively supports the local economy, working with local suppliers for everything from food and beverage to art and activities offered to guests.

Mt Mulligan Lodge’s parent company, the Morris Group, also supports community projects related to these goals through its philanthropic foundation the Morris Family Foundation. The foundation works in partnership with Ganbina, Australia’s most successful Indigenous school to work transition program, helping Indigenous high school students to finish school, undertake further study or train and secure meaningful employment.

Conservation

Mt Mulligan Lodge donates A$50 per guest stay to the Morris Family Foundation Reef Keepers Fund, supporting projects that protect and preserve the Great Barrier Reef. The Reef Keepers Fund has funded research and protection initiatives run by Rainforest Rescue, Climate Council Queensland and Solar Citizens Queensland.

Footprint

The lodge has a number of schemes to minimize its footprint. It is primarily powered by solar energy and batteries, water tanks that allow for the water to be recycled and used for irrigation, all organic waste from the kitchen is composted and plastic use is minimized wherever possible. The Northern Escape Collection offsets the carbon emissions of guests’ helicopter flights to Mt Mulligan Lodge.

Mt Mulligan works with local suppliers in the Far North Queensland region to source local, organic, free-range, fair trade, biodynamic and sustainably farmed produce and products. They have also adopted a nose-to-tail philosophy in the kitchen. This involves buying whole animals, practicing butchery in-house and using all off cuts to minimise food waste.
