The Whale Coast

Morukuru Ocean House

Overview

A coastal escape

Escape to your own four-bedroom oceanfront home in the beautiful De Hoop Nature Reserve.

With 51km of warm Indian Ocean waters lapping at the untouched white sand beaches, De Hoop has gained the reputation of being among the most exquisite coastal reserves in South Africa. Go exploring and you’ll also discover rock pools, wetlands, limestone cliffs, fragrant coastal fynbos and more than 260 species of birds.

The house can accommodate eight adults and four children under the age of 16. There are four double rooms with their own en-suite bathrooms and glass doors that look out over the ocean. The study annex children’s bedroom can sleep up to four children, but does not have its own bathroom. Children will have to share the bathroom in their parents’ room. There’s a TV and Playstation in the study, as well as a variety of boardgames. The interiors have been inspired by the surrounding fynbos and dunes, making for a pleasant place to relax.

If you’re staying between mid-July and November, you’ll get to marvel at Africa’s greatest whale nursery as southern right whales congregate in the shallow basins off the Overberg Coast to calve and nurse. You can watch them blowing, breaching and belly-flopping from the comfort of the viewing deck, or from down on the dunes.

During your stay you are not governed by a schedule, with total freedom to choose what you want to do and when. Your private kitchen comes with a chef who will prepare delicious meals for you, and your personal butler will be on hand to serve you refreshing drinks. What’s more, Morukuru Ocean House runs on sustainable green energy.
