Tranquil retreat on the water
On the western bank of the vast and idyllic Weboro Lagoon, nestled between palm trees and under large shady figs, Mopiri Camp boasts panoramic views of the Okavango Delta.
The camps 10 luxury rooms are spacious, light and airy with king-size beds and large private decks. All have ensuite bathrooms with double sinks and large rain showers. The bathrooms are connected to the bedrooms via a short corridor, making the most of the wonderful views across the lagoon. Each room is generously spaced-out offering privacy, and the peace and quiet needed to fully enjoy the tranquillity of the Okavango Delta.
Mopiri is surrounded by crystal clear Delta water on all sides; depending on when you stay, you may be able to see hippopotamus, elephants and Sitatunga in their natural habitat. Relax by the pool or explore your surroundings from an elevated position via the lodge’s jetty.

Bush walk
The bush holds many secrets if you know how and where to look - your guide will point out tracks and signs of animals, insects, birds, trees and many other fascinating aspects of this unique environment. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with African nature.

Barge cruise
Enjoy a sundowner or a spot of fishing aboard Mopiri’s double storey barge “Osprey”. This is the perfect way to start or end your stay, or simply to relax on the idyllic water and really take in your stunning surroundings.

Birding
In the company of one of the lodge’s knowledgeable guides, you’ll marvel at the variety of birds found around the Weboro Lagoon. Exceptional birding months are from September to February, when migrants have returned to southern Africa to take advantage of the optimum feeding conditions, before the floods arrive in the Delta.

Boat trip
Head out on a boat into the unknown of the Okavango Delta and you’ll enjoy the thrill of exploring a genuine wilderness. Explore hidden channels, find the best fishing spots and view hippos and even crocodiles from the water. Mopiri’s knowledgeable guides will also tell you all about the incredible ecosystem.

Fly camps
Spend the night camping out under the stars on a secluded island, accompanied by an expert team from Mopiri who will set up the camp from scratch. Your trusty barman will ensure that your sundowner is on hand and a full three-course meal will be prepared over the coals. This magical experience gives you a wonderful opportunity to see wildlife close-up and to experience all the activities on offer. (Please note that this activity must be booked in advance as fly camps are set up prior to your arrival.)

Village tour
You’ll be picked up from camp by helicopter for a scenic flight to the village; your tour will be led by a local guide who will explain fascinating aspects of village life such as architecture, religious beliefs, hunting and fishing. You’ll also be able to talk to local craftspeople. This two-hour excursion provides ideal opportunities to photograph the landscape and wildlife enroute.

Research talks
Mopiri has been used as the launch site for numerous “National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project” Delta wetland bird surveys, as well as being used to host education workshops with teachers from local schools in community outreach programmes. Researchers are available to give talks on their work and the Okavango Delta for those that are interested. (Please book in advance).

Elephant Havens
Take a helicopter and visit the elephant orphans at Elephant Havens. The whole family will love listening to enthusiastic guides talk about the orphaned elephants, explaining their behaviour through captivating storytelling and display. Elephant Havens carries out important conservation and habitat protection work, which you support by visiting the sanctuary.

Tsodilo Hills
Hop on a helicopter to fully appreciate the significance and majesty of the Tsodilo Hills from the air, then enjoy spotting game as you fly to and from Mopiri in the Okavango Delta. Tsodilo Hills consist of four rocky hills in the Kalahari Desert, including Botswana’s highest point, and are sacred to the San Bushmen who utilised the caves and springs here until the late 20th century. You’ll be accompanied by an ever-smiling San guide, who will explain the fascinating artwork – giving you a unique glimpse into the history and culture of Botswana that few tourists get to experience.
Community & culture
Mopiri Camp uses their onsite research centre to to run education workshops with teachers from local schools in our community outreach programmes. In addition the camp is member of 'Pack for a Purpose', an initiative that allows travellers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. It is as simple as choosing supplies you wish to take with you from a list of specific items requested for the area and project. The supplies you bring are then left with Mopiri and they make sure to deliver them on to the project. The items can vary from pencils, deflated soccer balls, pet supplies, through to stethoscopes and band-aids.
Conservation
The Botswana Wild Bird Trust (BWBT) has a mission to conserve wild birds and their habitat through exploration, research and monitoring, conservation action, partnerships, raising awareness and support for local citizen-led organisations. In 2017 a permanent scientific research base at Mopiri Camp was established, which is currently being used by the “National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project” (NGOWP), a broad-based conservation and landscape project undertaking research and development in Botswana, Namibia and Angola. The project aims to preserve the pristine state of the Okavango River Basin to protect key wildlife populations, help local communities thrive and support sustainable development and use of natural resources.
