South Luangwa National Park

Mfuwe Lodge

Overview

The lodge elephants walk through

Set around two lagoons under the shade of ebony and mahogany trees, Mguewe Lodge is the perfect place to ease into the Luangwa life.

All 18 chalets are scattered around the gardens and secluded verandas outside each provide a lovely vantage point for the comings and goings. Inside, each chalet has a comfortable sitting room, imperial King or twin beds, and a spacious en suite bathroom fitted with a walk-in shower.

The open-plan communal area overlooks two lagoons and the wallowing hippo and thirsty wildlife will keep you enthralled. There is also a library and photographic studio to unwind in when not exploring the surrounding wilderness. In November, the local elephants regularly wander right through the lobby, lured by a nearby fruiting mango tree.

Community & Culture

Starting in 1999, The Bushcamp Company started providing much-needed help to two local schools: Chiwawatala Primary School in Mfuwe Village, and Chilongozi Primary School. Since then, they have embarked on 25 years of conservation & community involvement and donated over 6 million US dollars to various projects.

Since its inception, the Bushcamp Company, through Charity Begins at Home, has been committed to ensuring that the community around the South Luangwa has a reason to conserve it. Education is the key to a successful future and with generous donations, teachers’ salaries have been paid and classrooms and staff houses built at three local schools. Access to clean water is also provided, and there is an educational programme that takes school children into the Park on game drives. Through Charity Begins at Home, and with the support of guests and other charities, The Bushcamp Company currently sponsor over 350 school children.

Conservation

In a time of pressing environmental and social problems, The Bushcamp Company, through Charity Begins at Home, is a proud supporter of three local wildlife organisations – Conservation South Luangwa (CSL), the Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP) and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife- that work together on various conservation efforts to address these issues and conserve the Valley’s wildlife. Conservation activities include anti-poaching and anti-snaring activities, human-wildlife conflict mitigation and training, wildlife research and surveys, and tree planting initiatives.
