Maasai Mara - Olare Motorogi Conservancy

Mahali Mzuri

Overview

Inspired by Maasai culture

Built amid a thicket of Acacia trees on the exclusive Olare Motorogi Conservancy at the edge of the Maasai Mara National Park, Sir Richard Branson’s Mahali Mzuri is a small-scale luxury safari camp offering an exclusive safari experience.

Each of the lodge’s 12 tents have been designed to be your home away from home throughout your stay, with an ensuite bathroom, private deck and unbeatable views of the surrounding savannah. The tents are perched on a ridge looking over the valley with a distinctive Maasai shield look-a-like design adapted to the local climate and terrain. Each tent is carpeted and furnished with large beds, leather sofas, and writing desks with the private deck featuring comfortable seating to enjoy the exquisite vistas of the African bush. The ensuite bathrooms boast claw-foot bathtubs, separate showers, twin basins and locally produced toiletries.

Enjoy an indulgent dining experience featuring pan-African cuisine using locally sourced produce and spices, either in the chic surroundings of the dining tent or in the privacy of your own tent’s deck. When you’re not out on a game drive exploring the glorious wild bush, lounge by the pool or treat yourself to a pampering session in the lodge’s spa.

Conservation

Mahali Mzuri has worked collaboratively with the local community to form conservancies using the land surrounding the northern boundary of the Maasai Mara reserve. The basic concept of these conservancies is to guarantee a fair income to every landowning member regardless of tourism numbers. This ensures e very community member is receiving a stable income, and tourism operators can promote high value, low density tourism which creates less pressure on the environment. This private conservancy is shared between five key Safari Camps and are the only Safari Operators permitted to conduct game drives in this area. Together they have a code of conduct and conservancy agreement to protect the land from ‘over tourism and development’ which only adds to the guest experience.
