Overview
A lodge in the heart of Lewa
This property is a family managed destination, owned and run by Sophie and Calum Macfarlane. Sophie’s grandfather was a cattle rancher and pioneered the importance of balancing nature, livestock and people within the Lewa Conservancy. Lewa House is part of his impressive heritage that is now one of the most famous wildlife conservation areas in the world.
Situated in the heart of the conservancy, Lewa House is a small soulful destination with simple, but comfortable accommodation. Their personalized approach means that each visit to the property has its own rhythm and the friendly passionate team that will ensure that every moment from food to game drive is a story to tell. There is a huge array of activities available and animals to see. Sophie and Calum are careful to leave the magic of this experience to the incredible beauty of the surrounding flora, fauna, wildlife and views.

Experiences
-
Game drives
Game drives are plenty on this bountiful conservancy with amazing wildlife to be seen. The history of Lewa Conservancy is an adventure in itself and Lewa House’s passionate guides will be sure to share it with you.
-
Bush Walks
Being within a private conservancy means that bush walks are possible and in this situation the perfect opportunity to take things slowly and focus on the little things.
-
Horse riding
Being on horse back in the wilderness is one of the most magical things to experience. It’s a unique way to connect to the environment around you and a chance to get up close to see the wilderness and its inhabitants in a way that simply isn’t possible by car.
-
Forest and Canopy Walk
The community run Ngare Ndare Forest is on the Lewa Conservancy border and offers a complete change. Huge, buttressed roots, fluttering butterflies, birds and waterfalls make this a nymph like experience. There is a canopy walkway to give a different perspective and refreshing pools to take the heat out of the day.
Conservation
Conservation is a huge part of Lewa House and the conservancy. ‘Make room for the wildlife’ were Sophie’s grandfather’s words when he handed the land down to the next generation. The team now lead the way in conservation, focusing on the protection of black rhino. In 2014 the fence between Lewa and Borana conservancies was removed and the area is now the third ‘Key 1 population’ in East Africa, signifying a stable and increasing rhino population.
