The Winelands

La Residence

Overview

The Winelands' most fabulous stay

Surrounded by Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz vines, you’ll find La Residence set on a 12 hectare farm in the lush Franschhoek Valley.

Under the creative eye of owner Liz Biden, ‘La Res’ has been filled with fascinating pieces of art, antique chandeliers, beautiful and comfortable furnishings and stunning floral arrangements. Each of the exquisite rooms has been put together with her particular flair for interior design, and each has its own theme - find yourself transported through time and style in opulent spaces like the Tibetan Suite and the Chambre Bleu.

It's a wonderful base from which to explore the valley, from a morning coffee breathing the air fragranced by fruit trees and admiring the mountain views, to evenings relaxing with a glass of wine before a four-course dinner in the Great Hall.

Community & Culture

Together with the Avela Foundation, La Residence helps to support children with burn injuries on their journey to physical and psychological recovery. Another cause close to the hearts of the team at La Residence is their involvement with Wes-Eind Primary. They support various child care and early childcare development initiatives in the community. Some of the ways donations are used is in buying sporting equipment, stationary and food, as well as improving playgrounds and sponsoring outings to learn about conservation. La Residence also runs training and internship programmes for students from local colleges.

Conservation

La Residence supports the Cape Leopard Trust which is involved in conservation, research and education projects. The team aims to find solutions to human-wildlife conflict and inspire communities to take an interest in the environment. The trust is an authority on predator conservation, and all donations go towards expanding the project and protecting leopards.

The estate has four bee hives which produce honey for guests and also have a beneficial impact on the surrounding ecosystem. Bees can play an important role in food security and poverty alleviation in South Africa.

Footprint

At La Residence, geothermal heating is used in the Vineyard Suites. In addition to that, energy-saving bulbs are used and showerheads have been replaced with water-saving attachments. They have also removed all plastic bottles and straws as far as possible. As far as the grounds go, alien vegetation is constantly being removed, and only indigenous trees are planted.
