Maasai Mara National Reserve

&Beyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp

Overview

Classic migration camp

Kichwa Tembo can be found on the banks of the Saparingo River in a private concession of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, right in the path of the seasonal Great Migration.

Steeped in the aura of classical safari the camp has 40 safari-style tents around its grounds. All of which are simple yet stylish and look out onto the open grasslands or the shady forest surrounding the river. The infinity pool sits literally on the edge of the Mara and boasts the most extraordinary views. While the main area provides you with the perfect place to unwind in comfort.

Set on a private concession, there is abundant iconic wildlife all year round and you can avoid the crowds. You will find your days are action-packed exploring by land or even air with hot air balloon. There will always be time to relax at camp with a massage or a sundowner toasting the wonderful sunsets of the Maasai Mara.

They are dedicated to providing its staff with as much information as possible to enable them to achieve freedom from poverty, malnutrition, gender inequity, stigma, HIV/AIDS and TB through its Positive Health programme. Due to the efforts of &Beyond and the Africa Foundation teams, over half a million dollars has been raised to date for clinic support, water access, food assistance, business support and school infrastructure.

Conservation

Private concessions such as this are vital for protecting the land around government protected national parks. This region, bordering the Serengeti, is special for a number of reasons. Not only does it mark the furthest northern reaches of the Great Migration, but it’s administered by the Mara Conservancy, a shining light in conservation-community partnerships in which the local Maasai communities play a pivotal role. In the last 20 years, 5,000 poachers have been apprehended and 50,000 snares removed.

Footprint

Designed to limit impact all hot water in the camp is heated through a solar water system. By bottling our water on site the camp saves over 56,000 plastic bottles annually.
