Ruaha National Park

Kichaka Frontier

Overview

Remote and wild Ruaha

Step back in time at Kichaka Frontier, where you’re surrounded by breathtakingly vast open spaces.

Set in the pristine Ruaha area, it is far removed from the hustle and bustle you often find near some of Northern Tanzania’s other parks. Your hosts and Kichaka’s founders, Andrew “Moli” Molinaro and Noelle Herzogg, were drawn by the extreme isolation back in 2007 and decided to stay.

Kichaka’s main base of operations is the pioneer-style camp. The simple seasonal camp boasts three en-suite, spacious and well-furnished tents. They can accommodate up to eight guests. This is the ideal camp if you’re looking for an intimate bush experience. It’s a comfortable place to call home while you spend your days exploring the area in vehicles and on walking areas (a speciality of the camp).

Relive the day’s adventures over a cold beverage in the large mess tent, and tuck into three-course meals, with your hosts and their friendly team close by to ensure you have everything you need.

    Game drives

Get up close to some of the most fascinating creatures from the comfort of your well-equipped game viewing vehicle. Many animals pay no heed to vehicles, which serves as something of a mobile hide, and as a result you’re able to get quite close. This is the perfect photographic opportunity.

Community & Culture

Kichaka Expeditions supports a small guide school on the border of the Ruaha National Park, Mkuyu Guide School. It was founded by Leonard Kilumile, and Kichaka makes internships at the camp available so that students can gain practical experience in the hospitality industry. Many of them go on to become part of the Kichaka family once they have completed their studies.

Conservation

Helping to protect elephants and large carnivores, the guides at Kichaka Expeditions contribute to a couple of databases that allow various species to be easily monitored and studied. This information is collected for Ruaha Carnivore Project and Southern Tanzania Elephant Program. You have the opportunity to donate to these projects if you would like to, thereby helping to conserve Ruaha and its wildlife.

Footprint

In line with the camp’s “leave no trace” ethos, there are no permanent fixtures, and the entire camp can be fairly easily relocated to a new area, leaving the site as they found it.
