Owned by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, designed to preserve the integrity of the wilderness and support conservation, Ithumba Hill Camp’s elevated position boasts 180-degree panoramic views of Ithumba’s stunning vistas.

Ithumba Hill Camp is an exclusive stylishly rustic hideaway, designed for the intrepid traveller who relishes being off the beaten track, with big skies, star-studded nights, and a rich array of fascinating species in the surrounding wild landscape. The camp offers four spacious and elegant rooms in raised tents, accommodating up to eight people. The airy tent platforms include Lamu-style doors as well as floor-to-ceiling netting, with an ensuite bathroom exposed to the African skies as well as a generous raised balcony with lounge chairs.

All rooms are interconnected by impressive, elevated walkways and the mess area includes a dining room and lounge offering fabulous views over Tsavo’s northern area. The beautifully designed private swimming pool and terrace is curved into the rocks where in blissful seclusion and gazing upon miles and miles of Africa one can relax and unwind.

    Game drives

    Head out by vehicle around this remote and little-visited part of Tsavo East National Park, recommended for photographers with its fabulous light and fantastic views, especially the Mudanda Rock and the Yatta Plateau, the world’s largest lava flow. Lugard Falls on the Galana River are remarkable for the shaped water-worn rocks. Animals that can be spotted include elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, crocodile, waterbuck, kudu, gerenuk and zebra.

    Guided Walks

    Experience guided walks along the Tiva River or hike up Ithumba Mountain. All walks are accompanied by an armed KWS ranger.

    Visit Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's Ithumba Elephant Reintegration Unit

    Visit the elephant orphans at the nearby Ithumba station twice a day and enjoy the midday mud-bath and the feeding of the elephant orphans.

Conservation

Ithumba Hill Camp directly contributes to the protection and conservation of this rare wilderness through supporting Anti-Poaching operations and KWS Rapid Response Unit. Additionally, the camp also donates necessary equipment to the KWS and has helped them with the refurb of their headquarters, maintain the freshwater plant for KWS personnel and support with bushfire mitigate. The camp assists with maintenance of the road network for security and with ongoing aerial surveillance. Ithumba maintains the Northern boundary electric fenceline and digs boreholes plus waterholes to provide access to water for wildlife.
