Sacred Valley

Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba

Overview

Contemporary rustic

Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba is a contemporary hacienda-style hotel in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a lush rural valley flanked by green mountains between Cusco and Machu Picchu.

12 rooms and 24 stand-alone casita suites overlook it all from their terraces or balconies. All feature high ceilings, wooden beams and a mixture of locally hand-carved wooden furniture, Andean textiles, and antiques for a cosy, rustic feel.

The restaurant embraces an ‘earth to table’ concept, with an organic farm where you're welcome to pick your own produce such as quinoa, giant corn, medicinal herbs and indigenous potatoes that are farmed with traditional hand tools and oxen. The bar has an excellent selection of piscos while the Mayu Spa has all natural therapies along with a dry sauna and hot plunge pool.

Community & Culture

Established in 1975, Inkaterra has been at the forefront of ecotourism and sustainable development in Peru, aiming to preserve biodiversity and local cultures.

More than 4,000 locals have been trained since Inkaterra was founded. Career opportunities in hospitality, field guidance and agroforestry projects on cacao and Brazil nut, are bonded to Inkaterra’s sustainable approach. Workshops and conferences are constantly organized for local communities to raise awareness of environmental care, as well as supporting agroforestry and organic production that allow for sustainable livelihoods that can coexist with the forest.

Conservation

Inkaterra Asociación has led biodiversity studies in the areas it operates for decades, including the Amazon, the cloud forests near Machu Picchu and Peru’s coast, with many thousands of hectares both protected and monitored by the NGO.

Footprint

Inkaterra properties are established in the heart of the Machu Picchu cloud forest, deep in the Amazonian rainforest, nestled in the cobblestoned streets of Cusco and surrounded by the rolling hills of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Luxury standards are achieved in all hotels, defined for their eco-friendly design inspired by traditional architecture and built with native materials, in harmony with the environment.

The first Peruvian enterprise to be declared carbon neutral, Inkaterra mitigates the effects of deforestation in the Amazon rainforest whilst contributing with carbon sequestration through the preservation of Peru’s first ecological concession, with more than 10,000 hectares of virgin rainforest
