Great Tsau Hill Lodge

Overview

Rustic cultural experience

On a private concession in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, at the foot of the Tsau Hills, Great Tsau Hill Lodge promises awe-inspiring views over this semi-arid region.

The lodge is a haven of tranquillity – 200 metres high and a kilometre across – offering magical vistas from every viewpoint and teeming with wildlife. Staying at Great Tsau Hill means getting as close to nature as possible without sacrificing comfort. The lodge offers 10 rustic tented rooms furnished with a comfortable bed, nightstand, vanity and featuring ensuite bathrooms with a bucket shower and portable toilet. Each room has a private veranda overlooking the wild African bush. The amenities offered are basic, but perfectly in keeping with the utterly unspoiled nature of your surroundings.

Get to know one of the planet’s oldest societies, the San Bushmen - head out into the wild and go foraging to find food and water or learn to make weapons and build a fire from the elements around you. Enjoy plenty of unique and wonderful experiences at the camp and end your days telling stories under the stars with your meal served round the campfire.

Experiences

  • Game drives

You can enjoy game drives in a vehicle with a driver or choose to try an e-bike safari: the ideal whisper-quiet transport to take you safely right up to the animals that roam the vast open plains including herds of oryx, hartebeest, wildebeest and ostrich. With the expert guidance of the lodge's Nature Hosts, it’s exciting to embark on a night drive looking for giraffe, brown hyenas, bat-eared foxes, and if your lucky, even the famed Kalahari black mane lions.

  • Birding

In the company of one of the lodge’s knowledgeable guides, you’ll marvel at the variety of birds found around the Kalahari Desert. Exceptional birding months are from September to February, when migrants have returned to southern Africa to take advantage of the optimum feeding conditions, before the floods arrive in the Delta.

  • Meet the San Bushmen

You’ll have the opportunity to go foraging with the San Bushman: to find delicious food and water where none appears to exist. To create weapons for hunting, or fire, from what you find around you. To see them tell stories and perform dances that have been handed down through generations, over tens of thousands of years.
