Footprint

Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island are committed to preserving and regenerating the environment and leaving a positive, enduring impact on the local community.

Energy is sourced from renewable or carbon-free sources, including an on-island solar farm, the second largest in the Seychelles. Water heated at the Resort by a combination of a heat recovery system and solar power, with electrical water heating used only when surplus demand cannot be met Water is sourced from the ocean through desalination, treated and bottled for guest consumption on site, with grey water recycled and used to water the gardens and flush toilets

Menus make the most of local, sustainable and seasonal menu items available. For example, a significant portion of our eggs and fresh produce are sourced from the island’s agricultural farm, which is operated by the Island Development Company (IDC). Vegan and vegetarian menus are also encouraged. Single use plastic usage has been minimised with organic waste composted and a recycling program in place for glass and kitchen oils.

Community and culture

Guests can engage in educational tours at local, natural, cultural, historical or heritage sites to learn more about the local community. Employees volunteer in the local community through the Island Conservation Society, who organize beach cleanups, where plastics washed ashore are removed and sent for recycling.

Conservation

A biodiversity support program in place through a partnership with the Island Conservation Society (ICS) that hosts activities including tortoise feeding, tortoise adoption and beach walks at the on-resort Tortoise Sanctuary that helps conserve these animals.
