Explora Atacama is located in the beautiful adobe town of San Pedro de Atacama, surrounded by a dramatic desert landscape of salt flats, volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, and sand dunes. Set on a 17-hectare reserve comprising 20 indigenous parcels, Explora Atacama has been built with the utmost care to preserve the pathways and buildings that were created by the ancient Aymara people who once lived in the Ayllu de Larache.

There are 50 rooms of varying types: the Tulur Rooms with views of the hotel grounds, Yali Rooms with views of the desert, and Suites Catur which span 50sqm with balconies overlooking the countryside. All feature a contemporary design with nods to the traditional adobe-style desert homes of the region.

The setting means you are spoilt for choice when it comes to activities, or ‘explorations’ as the property calls them. From hikes to horseback rides, biking, astronomy and more – and after all of that, there’s no better way to unwind than at one of the property’s four pools. Meals are a celebration at Explora Atacama, with a menu heavily influenced by wild ingredients and indigenous techniques creating what they refer to as ‘desert cuisine’.
