    Spa

The local Kuku Yalanji people have named the land on which the Daintree Ecolodge sits ‘Wawu-karrba’ which means ‘healing of the spirit.’ With approval from the local Indigenous people, each spa treatment combines the wisdom of their culture, healing, medicines and spirituality.

Community & Culture

The lodge actively supports the local economy, working with local suppliers for everything from food and beverage to art and activities offered to guests.

Daintree Ecolodge’s parent company, the Morris Group, supports community projects through its philanthropic foundation the Morris Family Foundation. These include Ganbina’s ‘Journey 2 Jobs’ program in nearby Townsville which assists Indigenous Australians in obtaining an education and gaining meaningful employment. They also support One Girl, a charity with the goal of educating and empowering one million girls across Africa, and Kenyan social enterprise ‘Bibi and Me’.

Conservation

Daintree Eclodge has partnered with Rainforest Rescue to assist in the reforestation of areas of the Daintree Rainforest that have been impacted by human development. It also donates A$50 per guest stay to the Morris Family Foundation's Reef Keepers Fund, supporting projects that protect and preserve the Great Barrier Reef. The Reef Keepers Fund has funded research and protection initiatives run by Rainforest Rescue, Climate Council Queensland and Solar Citizens Queensland.

Footprint

The lodge has a number of schemes to minimize its footprint. It is partially powered by solar energy and a biocycle wastewater treatment plant that allows 100% of the water to be recycled and used for irrigation and watering an on-site herb and veggie patch which provides chefs with a constant supply of fresh produce for guest meals.

It works with local suppliers in Queensland to source local, organic, free-range, fair trade, biodynamic and sustainably farmed produce and products. They have also adopted a nose-to-tail philosophy in the kitchen. This involves buying whole animals, practicing butchery in-house and using all off cuts to minimise food waste.
