COMO Uma Punakha

Overview

Valley retreat

COMO Uma Punakha is an intimate, luxury lodge nestled on a hillside at the far western end of the verdant Punakha Valley.

Nine hillside rooms overlook the Mo Chu River as it winds its way through the rice fields and orchards below, while a one and a two-bedroom villa offer even more living space and privacy. Airy, bright interiors are accented with Bhutanese details from handstitched fabrics to paintings.

The Bukhari restaurant serves both local and international cuisine, much created with the valley’s bounty. The COMO Shambhala Retreat offers a range of holistic, Asian-inspired treatments including signature massages, facials and body therapies, as well as the Bhutan’s famous hot-stone bath.

Community & Culture

COMO Hotels and Resorts aim to act as custodians, rather than managers, of each destination. Recognizing the privileges and responsibilities of being part of the community, they are committed to celebrating local culture, sustainable development, supporting the domestic economy, and minimizing impacts on the environment. Hence partnerships with local organizations to preserve cultural traditions, habitats and biodiversity.

At Como’s Bhutanese hotels, Uma Paro and Punakha, this is achieved through carefully curated activities brought to you by locals, support of nearby monasteries and nunneries, and by celebrating artisanal skills.

Footprint

Como is helping to maintain Bhutan’s reputation as a pristine and unspoiled land, by investing in Clean Bhutan - a non-profit organization working towards a zero-waste Bhutan by 2030. Clean Bhutan also takes on the responsibility of cleaning towns, rivers and trails around the country. The lodge also funds the cultivation of indigenous tree species and works with local authorities in reforestation efforts of local blue pine and cypress trees.

In efforts to reduce environmental footprint, the Executive Chef and kitchen team work closely with small-scale, local farmers and producers in Bhutan to supplement the produce grown in the lodge's own organic vegetable garden for the restaurant.
