&Beyond Vira Vira

Overview

Pucón Valley adventure

&Beyond Vira Vira is a modern hacienda surrounded by dramatic landscapes of breathtaking glacial lakes mirroring great forests and snow-capped volcanoes.

Find its suites, split level villas and private estate house overlooking a meandering river in the heart of the Pucón Valley in Chile’s Lake District. Interiors are cosy with bare wood, indigenous crafts and vast windows letting the views in.

The guides here are on hand to take you out on a variety of excursions. Go trekking in the national parks, horse riding in the cordilleras and take a scenic helicopter flight over the volcano. In winter you can head outdoors for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. When it’s not so chilly, try fly fishing, mountain biking and various water sports. Your activities can be planned according to your interests and fitness level.

Dining here is a highlight here with Chilean-inspired menus of produce from the organic hacienda's sprawling 22-hectare estate which boasts an organic vegetable garden and state-of-the-art cheese factory.

Community & Culture

The lodge is running a Conservation Lessons series at a nearby school in which they use ancestral Mapuche knowledge to teach the children about the importance of having a relationship with nature and wildlife. Vira Vira also has a local internship project which sees them accept applicants from the region rather than outside of Chile. You’ll be given information on all the projects the lodge supports and how you can get involved if you’d like to. The lodge employs 40 people from nearby communities.

Conservation

The community helps to grow saplings which the lodge then plants as part of its reforestation project. This provides them with an income, and it also helps spread awareness about deforestation and the need to work to stop it. You can buy trees that will be planted in the Mapuche community. The lodge team and locals also hold regular environmental clean ups to clear the river banks of washed up rubbish.

Footprint

The central heating at the lodge is completely generated by certified wood pellets. Grey water is treated in ecological treatment plants on site. All of the lodge’s lamps are filled with LED bulbs. Vira Vira meets the European insulation standards and all energy usage is tracked and reported on regularly. An on-site water bottling plant has helped to eliminate the use of plastic bottles, with only glass and aluminium bottles being used on excursions. Waste is recycled where possible, and organic waste is recycled for use in the gardens.
